In the next ten years, unicultural China and Russia will devour the fragmented nations of the West, unless the West turns its immune system back on.

For two decades, elites across Europe and the United States operated under a fatal delusion: that history had ended, that hard power was obsolete, and that a nation could dismantle its borders, its energy grid, its meritocracy, and its cultural cohesion without consequence.

They called it progress. In reality, it was an autoimmune disease.

While Western capitals spent twenty years lecturing the world on political correctness, shutting down nuclear power plants, importing millions of unassimilated migrants, and replacing merit with identity quotas, Beijing and Moscow did not stand still. Seeing that the West had voluntarily switched off its own civilizational immune system, they moved in for the kill. They did not need tank columns across the Fulda Gap; instead, they waged a relentless, asymmetric hybrid war designed to hollow out fragmented societies from within.

Over the next decade (2026–2036), the global order will split cleanly in two: fragmented nations that cannot defend their borders or culture will be eaten alive, while states that enforce a unified, ruthless operating system will take everything they leave behind.

Here is the anatomy of how the West disarmed itself from within, how China and Russia weaponized the fracture, why the next ten years are the window of maximum danger, and the only operating system that can still win the 2030s: Imperial Meritocracy.

I. Woke Suicide: Turning Off the Immune System #

Fourteenth-century Islamic scholar and historian Ibn Khaldun had a word for the invisible fuel that makes civilizations rise and fall: Asabiyyah, meaning group solidarity, social trust, and shared purpose. In the Muqaddimah (1377), he stated a simple law of history: a unified tribe with fierce Asabiyyah will almost always conquer a wealthier, larger empire that has grown soft and lost its internal cohesion.

Six centuries later, in his 1997 geostrategic classic The Grand Chessboard, former U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski issued two warnings that read like a prophecy for 2026. First, on page 55, he warned that the single greatest geopolitical danger to the West would be “a grand coalition of China, Russia, and perhaps Iran, an ‘antihegemonic’ coalition united not by ideology but by complementary grievances.” Second, on page 211, he identified the internal vulnerability that would paralyze the West from stopping it:

“Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstances of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat.”

Between 2005 and 2024, Western elites walked straight into both of Brzezinski’s traps at once. While bungled Western statecraft drove China, Russia, and Iran into a unified industrial and military bloc, Western leaders waged a systematic war on their own domestic Asabiyyah. Treating post-national multiculturalism and political correctness as a state religion, they inflicted three catastrophic wounds on their own societies:

  1. Unselective Open Borders and the Vacuum Law of Culture: Immigration works only when it is selective and demands assimilation into a confident legal and economic creed. Instead, Western Europe (the UK, France, Germany, Sweden) and Canada opened their borders to millions of low-skill entrants while telling newcomers that Western civilization was uniquely evil. Nature abhors a cultural vacuum. If wokeism is an autoimmune virus that makes a host hate itself and stop having children, Political Islam in Europe acted as a competing, high-Asabiyyah operating system moving into an empty house. A confident, high-fertility, unapologetic religious culture will never assimilate into a weak, self-loathing post-Christian society. Instead, it establishes parallel legal norms, sectarian voting blocs, and street veto power over the host.
  2. Energy and Industrial Disarmament: In the name of climate orthodoxy, Germany shut down its last three nuclear reactors in April 2023 in the middle of an energy crisis, Europe regulated its own heavy industry into stagnation, and Western courts choked domestic mining, refining, and power-grid construction in decade-long environmental lawsuits. Europe de-industrialized itself and handed the keys of its economy to Russian pipelines and Chinese solar, battery, and rare-earth monopolies.
  3. Institutional Paralysis and the War on Merit: Inside the United States and Europe, universities, corporate boards, defense procurement, and state bureaucracies subordinated excellence to ideological compliance and outcome quotas. Every major physical project, from high-voltage transmission lines to semiconductor fabs and shipyards, became trapped in a vetocracy of NGO lawsuits and DEI mandates.

No foreign army forced the West to do this. It was a homegrown autoimmune disorder born of luxury beliefs and moral vanity.

II. The Psyop: How China and Russia Poured Gasoline on the Fire #

Did Russia and China invent Western political correctness or open borders? No. In intelligence warfare, you rarely create a social virus from scratch inside an adversary’s borders. Instead, you find an existing internal delusion and pour billions of dollars of gasoline on it until the enemy paralyzes itself.

America’s adversaries studied The Grand Chessboard like a leaked imperial blueprint; in fact, the digital copy linked above (PDF-019113 in the CIA’s declassified Abbottabad Compound index) was one of just 39 English-language books recovered by SEAL Team 6 from Osama bin Laden’s personal bookshelf in Abbottabad. Yet where bin Laden violated page 211 by launching 9/11 and handing a divided America the exact “truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat” that instantly united the nation against him, Beijing and Moscow learned from his mistake. Realizing that a Pearl Harbor-style military attack would wake the West up, Russia and China designed their campaign to stay strictly below the threshold of kinetic war, weaponizing the West’s own open borders, climate guilt, and ideological fractures to rot Europe and America from the inside.

1. Weaponized Migration as Hybrid Warfare #

When Russia intervened in Syria in 2015, Russian aircraft systematically bombed civilian apartments, bakeries, and hospitals in rebel-held cities. The goal was not tactical battlefield gain, but driving millions of Syrian refugees into Germany to fracture the European Union. Testifying before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee in March 2016, then-NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Philip Breedlove stated plainly: “Together, Russia and the Assad regime are deliberately weaponizing migration from Syria in an attempt to overwhelm European structures and break European resolve.”

Starting in 2021, Belarus and Russia dropped all subtlety. State-backed agencies flew tens of thousands of migrants from the Middle East and Africa into Minsk and Moscow on tourist visas, handed them wire cutters, and bused them to the borders of Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, before Russia opened the same hybrid front against Finland in late 2023. Further south, Russian mercenaries (Wagner and its successor, Africa Corps) seized control of military juntas across Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. That gave the Kremlin physical leverage over the trans-Saharan migrant highway into Italy and Europe, allowing Moscow to turn the human tap on and off ahead of European elections.

2. Green Subversion and Supply-Chain Capture #

As early as June 2014, speaking at Chatham House in London, then-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen publicly warned that Russia was covertly working with European environmental organizations to oppose domestic shale-gas fracking and keep Europe dependent on imported Russian gas. In early 2021, the German state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern even established a “Climate and Environmental Protection Foundation” seeded with 20 million euros and funneled 192 million euros through its commercial arm from Gazprom’s Nord Stream 2 AG to bypass U.S. sanctions and finish the Russian pipeline. Meanwhile, Beijing applauded every European green mandate that shuttered Western factories and forced Europe to import Chinese EVs, wind turbines, and grid batteries, even as China itself permitted an average of two new coal-fired power plants a week (over 100 gigawatts of new coal capacity in 2022–2023 alone) and captured over 50% of global commercial shipbuilding output and 63% to 70% of new global ship orders (compared to less than 1% for the United States).

3. The Fentanyl Pipeline and the U.S. Southern Border #

While American politicians paralyzed U.S. border enforcement for years through asylum loopholes, China weaponized the supply chain behind it. A bipartisan April 2024 investigation by the U.S. House Select Committee on the CCP (“The CCP’s Role in the Fentanyl Crisis”) documented that Chinese chemical companies supply nearly 100% of the illicit fentanyl precursors shipped to Mexican cartels, with the proceeds laundered through Chinese underground banking syndicates. Worse, the investigation revealed that the Chinese government directly subsidized the export of illicit fentanyl precursors through Value-Added Tax (VAT) rebates and state grants, even for chemical compounds with zero legitimate medical use worldwide. At its 2022–2023 peak, synthetic opioids (primarily fentanyl) alone killed roughly 75,000 Americans a year (part of over 107,000 total annual U.S. drug overdose deaths), killing more Americans every single year than the 58,220 U.S. troops lost across the entire twenty-year Vietnam War.

4. Algorithmic Subversion (“Playing Both Sides”) #

Upgrading the Soviet KGB’s Active Measures playbook for the smartphone era, Russian and Chinese state bot networks and algorithmic feeds play both extremes simultaneously. On Monday, they amplify radical far-left protests: abolish the police, open the borders, halt fossil fuels, tear down Western history. On Tuesday, the exact same state networks amplify far-right separatist and racial rage-bait.

Beijing and Moscow do not care which faction wins a Western street fight. Their objective is simpler: ensure the West spends 90% of its political energy fighting itself so it can never build factories, ships, or power grids.

The proof that this was a choice rather than fate sits right in Central and Northern Europe. When Belarus and Russia bused migrants to their borders, Poland built a 186-kilometer, 5.5-meter-high steel barrier and put armed soldiers on the line, and Finland shut its entire 1,340-kilometer eastern land border with Russia. The psyop died overnight.

III. Why the Next 10 Years (2026–2036) Are the Window of Maximum Danger #

Why is this specifically a 10-year crisis rather than a 50-year one?

Because three structural clocks are all hitting zero between 2026 and 2036:

  1. The “Peak Predator” Window for China and Russia: If you look out to 2050, China and Russia face catastrophic demographic collapse. With fertility rates around 1.0, UN World Population Prospects data projects that China’s working-age population (ages 15–64, which peaked near 990 million around 2015) will shrink by well over 150 million people over the next two decades toward 700 million by mid-century, while its median age climbs from 39 toward 50. Beijing and Moscow know their demographic clock is ticking, which makes the next 10 years their “now or never” window. Predators are most dangerous right before they age out. They do not need to outlast the West over a century; they only need the West to stay paralyzed for the next ten years.
  2. Europe’s Fiscal and Demographic Point of No Return: Between 2026 and 2036, the last of Europe’s native Baby Boomers retire while unassimilated migrant cohorts become permanent, decisive voting blocs in major British, French, and German cities. Crushed between shrinking tax bases, exploding welfare and pension obligations, expensive energy, and a vanishing industrial base, fragmented European states face a math problem they can no longer paper over.
  3. The 10-Year AI, Energy, and Robotics Lock-In: The decade from 2026 to 2036 is when the physical infrastructure of the 21st century gets built and locked in: gigawatt-scale AI compute clusters, autonomous defense systems, advanced nuclear reactors, and humanoid robotics. A unified state can permit a nuclear plant, build a 5-gigawatt AI data center, or scale a drone factory in six months. A fragmented state spends seven years litigating environmental reviews and diversity mandates. Whoever loses the next ten years of physical buildout will never catch up.

Over the next decade, unicultural powers do not even need to invade Western Europe to devour it. They will devour it through decision-cycle arbitrage, industrial hollowing, capital flight of Europe’s productive elites, and fire-sale buyouts of distressed European infrastructure.

IV. The Cure: Imperial Meritocracy #

Does this mean ethnic homogeneity is the ultimate superpower? No.

Strictly closed, mono-ethnic states have a fatal ceiling. South Korea (fertility rate ~0.75 to 0.8), Japan (~1.15), China (~1.0), and Russia (~1.4, compounded by war casualties and emigration) are aging at breakneck speed. A strictly mono-cultural state can only recruit from its own domestic gene pool; it can never assimilate an outsider.

Historically, small homogenous states survive well as defensive fortresses, but the superpowers that dominate history, from Rome to the United States at its peak, win through a different model: Imperial Meritocracy.

State ArchetypeExamplesCultural Operating System10-Year Trajectory (2026–2036)
1. Fragmented Multicultural Welfare StateUK, France, Germany, CanadaOpen borders, low assimilation, welfare drag, DEI bureaucracy, energy disarmamentThe Prey. Paralyzed by internal sectarianism, fiscal crisis, capital flight, and foreign hybrid warfare.
2. Closed Unicultural Autocracy / Ethno-StateChina, Russia (and high-trust democracies like Japan/Poland)High internal order, zero tolerance for woke paralysis, fast industrial execution, closed bordersThe Aging Predator / Fortress. Dominates fragmented states over the next decade, but hits a hard demographic and talent ceiling by the 2040s.
3. Imperial MeritocracyCourse-Corrected U.S., Singapore, UAEDiverse origins, 100% uniform high-performance culture: strict borders, law & order, capitalism, top-0.1% global talent vacuumThe Ultimate Winner. Out-scales both decaying welfare states and aging ethno-states in compute, capital, and frontier tech.

Look closely at the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) in that third row. The UAE is an Islamic nation ruled by Muslim monarchs, yet it is the polar opposite of London, Paris, or Malmö. Why do Muslim rulers in the Gulf treat Political Islam like nitroglycerin, while Western liberals treat it like a harmless diversity club? Because naive Westerners project their own watered-down, post-Enlightenment Christianity onto the rest of the world, assuming every religion is merely private spirituality. Arab rulers know from 1,400 years of history that Islam is not just a private prayer; in its politicized form (the Muslim Brotherhood, Salafi-jihadism, Hizb ut-Tahrir), it is a totalizing legal and revolutionary operating system designed to overthrow states from within. That is why the UAE runs on strict Imperial Meritocracy: the state writes and approves every Friday mosque sermon, designates the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, pays zero welfare to foreigners, and deports or jails extremists on sight.

Meanwhile, for decades, European capitals granted political asylum, free housing, and welfare checks to the exact Islamist radicals whom Arab governments had hunted down or exiled, lecturing Middle Eastern leaders about “human rights” and “Islamophobia.” Speaking at the Tweeps Forum in Riyadh on May 21, 2017, in a room packed with Western journalists covering the Riyadh Summit, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan called Europe an “incubator of extremism” in Arabic, then abruptly switched to English to address Bloomberg’s London-based moderator Francine Lacqua directly (“No, I know you have translation, but I just want to make sure you get it right”):

“There will come a day that we will see far more radical extremists and terrorists coming out of Europe because of lack of decision-making, trying to be politically correct, or assuming that they know the Middle East and they know Islam and they know the others far better than we do. And I’m sorry, but that’s pure ignorance.”

Literally the next night, on May 22, 2017, Salman Abedi, the son of a Libyan Islamist militant family granted asylum and welfare by the British government in Manchester, detonated a suicide bomb at the Manchester Arena, killing 22 people. Even Muslim-ruled meritocracies tried to warn the West that politically correct tolerance of unassimilated extremism was suicidal.

Now look inside SpaceX, NVIDIA, OpenAI, Anduril, or top American quantitative trading firms today. If you look at passports of birth, the engineers are American, Chinese, Indian, Russian, Korean, Iranian, and European. They are ethnically diverse, yet culturally 100% uniform. They speak one language, worship math and engineering reality, work 70-hour weeks, get rewarded purely on merit, and have zero patience for ideological victimhood.

That is America’s unfair advantage, and the one weapon China and Russia can never copy. China can only draw from 1.4 billion aging people inside China. An America running on Imperial Meritocracy can drain the smartest 0.1% of ambitious minds out of China, Russia, India, and Europe, turning its adversaries’ best brains into American citizens within five years.

Unlike Europe, which appears culturally and fiscally trapped in slow-motion suicide, the United States still possesses a violent self-correction mechanism. Over the past three years, America has begun ripping out the ideological deadweight of the 2010s: dismantling affirmative action and corporate DEI, pivoting aggressively back toward fossil and nuclear energy dominance, and channeling trillions of dollars into re-industrialization, defense tech, and frontier AI.

To survive the next ten years and defeat the unicultural predators circling the West, that course correction must go all the way:

  1. Seal the Border to Chaos, Open the Fast-Track to Genius: Enforce absolute physical sovereignty at the border and deport violent offenders without apology, while handing automatic green cards to the world’s top 0.1% scientists, AI researchers, physicists, and founders.
  2. One Unapologetic Culture: End state-sponsored multiculturalism. Assimilation into English, constitutional law, public order, and individual merit must be the non-negotiable price of admission.
  3. Kill the Vetocracy and Build: Strip away the environmental and ideological bureaucracy blocking nuclear power plants, transmission grids, mines, refineries, and factories. Match China’s build speed watt for watt, ton for ton.
  4. Restore Hard Deterrence: Treat weaponized migration, fentanyl precursor pipelines, and foreign NGO subversion as acts of war, not domestic social work.

Woke multiculturalism was a twenty-year luxury belief funded by the accumulated wealth of a stronger generation. The bill has arrived, and the predators are at the gate. In the decade ahead, nations will either unify around hard power and ruthless merit, or be devoured by those who already have.
